Abstract

Recently, climate change response is undeniably one of the most critical issues both domestically and internationally. Consequently, many countries are proposing various methods to address this challenge. Recently, there has been a shift in focus from traditional plant-based carbon storage to marine ecosystem-based blue carbon, garnering significant interest. Among the three major halophytes designated by the IPCC, mangroves have become a focal point in the context of tourism. However, despite this emerging trend, related research remains scarce. Moreover, there is a lack of systematic understanding of existing studies. Therefore, this study aims to analyze recent research trends related to 'Mangrove Tourism' using bibliometric analysis with VOSviewer and to provide insights for the promotion of mangrove tourism. For this purpose, recent studies were collected through Science Direct, and RIS file conversion was performed for analysis. According to the results, first, research on mangrove tourism has been steadily increasing since 2000. Additionally, mangrove tourism has emerged as a significant issue, particularly in some developing countries in Asia. Second, an analysis of occurrence frequency revealed that keywords such as ecosystem services and conservation frequently coincided with issues like community, governance, operational management, and stakeholders. This suggests the importance of the operational management aspect of mangrove tourism. Third, cluster analysis emphasized the interrelated connections among climate change, governance, operational management, stakeholder participation, ecosystem services, conservation, and sustainability. These key clusters showed significant correlations with each other, leading to the conclusion that mangrove tourism, along with the continuous development of ecotourism for climate change response, must not overlook the importance of integrated management issues such as governance, partnerships, operations, and maintenance. However, existing studies indicate that to establish a structure for integrated long-term operational management, improvements in funding and monitoring are required. Specifically, development through the participation of various stakeholders can establish a structure for integrated long-term operational management. This structure demonstrates the sustainable development of mangrove tourism and ultimately contributes to climate change response and the realization of carbon neutrality.
