The present study investigates the relationship between the locality of rural areas and urban-to-rural migration, focusing on the increased migrants from urban to rural areas. The present study utilizes spatial statistics to analyze areas of migrants' preference, and adopted multiple spatial statistics models to understand the relationship between local characteristics and urban-to-rural migration. According to results, most of urban-to-rural migration have been originated from metropolitan areas while the migrants' preferring areas are Seoul metropolitan city and its surrounding areas, and outskirts of Busan, Daegu and Ulsan city. The results shows that areas which are adjacent to metropolitan areas and have enough rurality tend to attract more migrations. The results also implies that the migration movement in Korea is not yet of a urban-to-rural migration, but a relocation of residence due to the urban expansion.
