Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate factors contributing text interest and to explore some implications for Korean text development, basing on situational interest, specifically text-based interest. According to research related to text interest, various characteristics of text have an impact on reader's perceived interest of text. Reader's interest is related to text comprehension most strongly when his background knowledge is moderately related to text content. Extremely low levels of interest lead to him boredom and extremely high levels made it difficult to understand text. Additionally, factors such as character identification, life theme, and novelty, activity level, and postdictability effect reader's interest of text. Also, text coherence and text structure have an impact on it. Based on these factors, some implications for making Korean textbook more interesting were suggested.
