Abstract
This study is a preliminary study to develop a gardening mindfulness group counseling program that combines gardening activities and mindfulness for the purpose of reducing post-traumatic symptoms and pursuing psychological recovery of victims of crime. To this end, based on the program development model (research and analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation), the relevant research literature was reviewed, the needs of the clients and staff members were investigated through interviews, and the contents of eight sessions of the program were constructed and validated by experts. Afterwards, the program was implemented on six people in City 'D' who experienced trauma from crime and the effectiveness was verified by paired sample t-test. The results showed statistically significant changes in self-esteem, anxiety, and event shock, which are negative symptoms experienced after a criminal event. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant difference in vitality and depression, but the mean score of vitality increased and the mean score of depression decreased. This study is significant in that the group counseling program developed by combining gardening and mindfulness was able to reduce a number of negative symptoms that crime victims may exhibit after a traumatic experience, and increase self-esteem and vitality, which are protective factors that can help psychological recovery. Based on the limitations of this study and suggestions for future research made in the discussion, it is suggested that the program be further developed to improve its effectiveness
