Abstract
This study examined cognitive emotion regulation strategies among university students by categorizing them into adaptive and maladaptive strategies and identifying latent profiles. Data from 284 participants were analyzed using latent profile analysis, resulting in three distinct profiles: "vulnerable adaptation," "moderate adaptation," and "healthy adaptation." The vulnerable profile (9.3%) showed the highest use of maladaptive strategies; the moderate profile (15.3%) used fewer maladaptive strategies but similar levels of adaptive strategies as the vulnerable group. The healthy profile (75.4%) demonstrated the highest use of adaptive strategies. Comparisons across profiles revealed that the vulnerable group reported significantly higher depression, anxiety, negative affect, and career stress. The healthy group showed significantly higher self-esteem, positive affect, and other indicators of positive adjustment. The findings highlight how distinct cognitive emotion regulation patterns relate to mental health and adjustment in university students. Based on these findings, the implications and limitations of the study are discussed.
