윤동주 시 평가의 재조명 – 성서수용과 신앙발달단계를 중심으로-

Abstract

This study is aimed at looking into the aspect of Korean Christian poets’ acceptance of the Bible, and weighing up the level of the Christian faith expressed in their poetry works by accepting the Bible on the basis of a theologist’s ‘Stages of Faith’ theory; first, this paper considered the case of the poet Dong-joo, Yun. Dong-joo, Yun is highly evaluated as a poet who achieved harmony between the profundity of a poem and level of faith. It’s far from simple to judge the poetic consciousness from the theological perspective, but it might be possible to secure a new viewpoint of poet evaluation by doing mutual comparison of the poetic consciousness around the quality shared by a poem and faith. Through this writing, this writer was able to re-evaluate the literary value of Dong-joo, Yun from the standpoint of faith development away from the eyes of a literary critic. Dong-joo, Yun adhered to the Bible during his lifetime, and showed turnings of life and qualitative changes in the world of poetry a few times. According to Fowler(J. W. Fowler)’s ‘Stages of Faith’ theory, Poet Yun’s poem is evaluated to reach Stage 4 ‘Individual-Reflective Faith’ which is the level of responsible faith in which he could stand on his own two feet after surmounting Stage 3 ‘Conventional Faith.’ His swan song 「An easily written Poem」 written during the days of studying abroad in Japan is judged to show the possibility of Stage 5 ‘Conjunctive Faith(Paradoxical Faith).’ This study drew the conclusion that Dong-joo, Yun was a poet and religious person as well having a high level of whole-personal value with his poems causing no conflicts between literary evaluations and theological judgment. This writing has significance in that it managed to overcome the existing practice of poetic criticism which has understood the content itself of the poet’s faith confession just as a poetic theme.
