본 연구는 기독교인의 종교성향이 우울에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 종교성향이 우울에 미치는 과정에서 자존감이 매개효과가 있는지 검증하는 것이다. 연구대상은 20세 이상 교회에 출석하고 있는 기독교인 410명이었으며, 종교성향, 우울, 자존감 척도를 사용하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기독교인의 외재적 종교성향은 우울에 정적인 영향을 미치고 있었고, 내재적 종교성향은 우울에 부적인 영향을 미치고 있었다. 둘째, 자존감은 종교성향과 우울과의 관계에서 부분매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 외재적 종교성향과 내재적 종교성향 모두 우울에 직접적인 영향을 미치기도 하지만, 자존감을 매개로 간접적인 영향도 미치고 있었다. 본 연구의 결과는 기독교인의 종교성향에 따라 우울에 미치는 영향에 차이가 있고, 자존감의 매개효과를 통해 우울을 감소시킬 수 있다는 사실을 시사해 준다. 이에 기독교인의 우울을 감소시키기 위해서는 내재적 종교성향과 자존감을 증진시키는 상담전략이 모색되어야 할 필요성을 논의하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the religious orientation of Christians on depression and verify if self-esteem has mediating effect in the process of religious orientation affecting depression. As for the participants of study, they were 410 Christians over the age of 20 attending church, and survey research was conducted by using religious orientation, depression and self-esteem scale. The result of this study is as follows. First, extrinsic religious orientation of Christians was having positive effects on depression, and intrinsic religious orientation was having negative effects on depression. Second, it was found that there is a partial mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between religious orientation and depression. Namely, both extrinsic religious orientation and intrinsic religious orientationhad direct effects on depression but they also had indirect effects through the mediation of self-esteem. As for the result of this study, there is a difference in the effect on depression according to the religious orientation of Christians, and it implies that depression can be reduced through the mediating effect of self-esteem. Accordingly, the need to search for counselling strategy was discussed to enhance intrinsic religious orientation and self-esteem to reduce the depression of Christians.
