한국 교회 내 외국인 사역자의 삶과 사역에 대한 문화기술지 연구

Abstract

This study is about the lives and ministries of foreign ministers who are currently working as domestic cross-cultural missionaries in Korean Churches. The church’s missionary vision, is to prepare for the era of 5 million migrants which led to bringing this need to the attention of foreign ministers and for training more foreign ministers. Until now, huge interest and lots of research has been done on the strategic part of migrant ministries. This study highlights the interest of foreign ministers who are currently carrying out migrant missionary work and are the main actors of the said ministry. In doing so, a qualitative study is used to examine the life of the research participants to accomplish this ministry. The first research question includes: "What do foreign ministers think of life in the Korean churches?"  Secondly, “What do foreign ministers think of ministry in the Korean churches?” The researcher used an Ethnographic research method to get a perspective on the lives of foreign ministers. In particular, 20 foreign ministers who have experience in ministering and living in the socio-cultural environment of the Korean church, were selected as the study participants. The main data collection for the study used participatory observation, field data collection, and in-depth interviews. The in-depth interview was conducted for about 90 to 120 minutes each in three sessions and the research analysis procedure was based on the 12 steps of the cultural and technical journal research. The total company data is 1,064 pages, and the qualitative data analysis process uses Nvivo 12 to secure reliability of the entire research process. 118 codes, 32 sub-components and 7 components were derived based on the most important statements of the participants. The seven components are: 'Korea, a new beginning', 'experience of ministry in the Korean church', 'positive aspects of ministry experience', 'characteristics of the Korean church', 'on migrant missions and overseas missions of the Korean church', 'Reminiscing Life' and 'To the Korean Church'. The seven components are focused on life from the time they came to Korea up to the present. This study shows the lives and ministries of foreign ministers in the Korean church and presents policy implications focusing on the results revealed in their lives. The policy proposals were presented based on critical contextualization according to the most important statements requested by foreign ministers.
