본 연구는 재가 정신장애인의 희망 개념분석을 통해 그 의미를 명확히 하기 위해 시도 되었으며 Walker와 Avant의 연구 방법에 따라 진행되었다. 재가 정신장애인의 희망은 ‘미래를 긍정적으로 바라봄’, ‘정신장애로부터 자유로움’, ‘평범한 일상을 누림’, ‘질병의 의미를 발견’을 결정적 속성으로 가지고 있었다. 따라서 ‘재가 정신장애인의 희망’을 ‘미래에 긍정적으로 바라보며, 정신장애에 얽매이지 않고 일반인처럼 평범한 삶을 살아가는 것이며, 질병으로 인한 어려움 속에서도 그 의미를 찾고 영적인 것을 추구해 가는 상태’로 정의하였다. 본 연구에서 도출된 재가 정신장애인의 희망의 속성을 통해 재가 정신장애인에게 있어 적극적 회복인 지역사회로의 통합을 도모할 수 있는 정책 수립의 필요성을 제시하며 이에 대한 정신건강전문가들의 적극적인 개입이 필요함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 재가 정신장애인이 경험하는 희망의 속성에 대한 명료화가 그리스도인들이 재가 정신장애인들이 지역사회에서 함께 살아가야 할 이웃으로 인식하고 더불어 사는 삶을 실천하기 위한 지침을 마련하는데 근거가 될 수 있으며 재가 정신장애인의 희망을 고취시켜 지역사회로의 통합을 도모할 중재개발과 연구에 적용될 수 있다는 점에서 그 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study aimed to clarify the concept of hope of community dwelling people with mental disabilities through a concept analysis based on Walker and Avant’s methods. Hope among these individuals was characterized by four key attributes: “a positive outlook on the future,” “freedom from mental illness,” “enjoyment of an ordinary daily life,” and “discovery of meaning in illness.” Thus, hope for individuals with mental disabilities living at home is defined as “the state of looking positively toward the future, living an ordinary life without being constrained by mental illness, and seeking meaning amidst challenges while pursuing spiritual growth.” The identified attributes highlight the need for policies that promote active recovery and community integration, emphasizing the proactive involvement of mental health professionals. Additionally, understanding these attributes of hope can provide a foundation for Christians to recognize these individuals as neighbors, offering guidelines for a life of togetherness. The significance of this study lies in its potential application for intervention development and research aimed at fostering hope of community dwelling people with mental disabilities, thereby facilitating community integration.
