본논문은찰스샌더스퍼스(C.S.Peirce) 의사랑론에대한철학적탐구로“진화적사랑(EvolutionaryLove) ”을중심으로창조적사랑을논의한다. 이중에서퍼스의진화적사랑개념인아가파즘(agapasm) 을연구의핵심개념으로삼고자한다. 프래그머티즘의창시자인퍼스의철학에서사랑을의미하는아가페, 즉아가파즘의개념은퍼스철학을종합적으로판단하는토대연구로서가치를가진다. 논자는퍼스의철학체계에서사랑론이형이상학과연관하여핵심적부분이라판단하고, 퍼스의형이상학이어떻게우주진화론과연결되는지살펴보고자한다. 연구목표를위한방향은첫째, 사랑론이형성하게된이론적토대인형이상학과우주진화론에대한분석이다. 둘째, 퍼스철학에서중요한삼자관계성안에서아가파즘을논의하기위해서시네키즘과타이키즘을함께비교논의한다. 셋째, 퍼스의논문“진화적사랑”을분석하면서진화적사랑이의미하는것이무엇인지살펴본다. 궁극적으로퍼스의사랑론에서논자가밝히고자하는것은우주진화론에서아가파즘이어떻게하나의'목적'으로써방향키가되는지시네키즘과타이키즘의연관성을통해그중요성을입증하는것이다. 결과적으로퍼스의사랑론이관념론에그치지않고, 어떻게사회적이고, 현실적인토대에아가페개념이적용될수있는지그연관성을논의한다.
Abstract
Charles Sanders Peirce's thesis of “evolutionary love”(1893) is analyzed as his contribution to a moregeneral concept of ‘creative love’ seen across several philosophers. particularly those involved infeminist philosophy. An analysis of Peirce's term “agapasm” is addressed as the coreissue. Drawing on Helmut Pape's view, I willfocus on what philosophical status Peirce gave to agapasm. Next,this topic of agapasm is compared to pragmatism. Afterthat,for wider analysis, some scholars talk about love exclusively through metaphysics(like Peirce), while others treat love exclusively through epistemology. It is important to address both.Other useful terms from Peirce for analyzing this topic of love include his term‘thirdness’ and his term ‘triadic relationship.’ In summary,Peirce's theory of agapasm is echoed in some later feminist philosophy. Additionally, Peirce's ideas on love are useful for other studies as his concepts can be applied in many areas like cultural studies,aesthetics, and art.
