비극적 자아의 형성과 소멸, 그 이후 : 1920년대초반염상섭소설세계의전환과관련하여

Abstract

There’s a tendency to value Yeom Sang-seop’s works highly in the view point of ‘national consciousness’, considering them as an advance from abstract universalism to total reflection over colonial modernity. However, Yeom’s early works are not concentrated on the aspects of world or the perception of reality but on the attitude on which ‘awakened ego’ observes world and on the aspect of the inside. And as the result the sudden regression of perception of reality and planing of novels after around 1923 could be understood. That is, ‘Early Triology’ is the result that firstly ‘grief of ego’ is constituted, and after on which political, ideological signs and historical contexts are followed lately. Mansejeon(만세전) is a work in which world finding of immature ‘colonial modern ego’ is reported. And Haebaragi(해바라기) is a work that proclaims the end of romantic and disillusive ego according to prevailing of popular morals and withering of ego. Hence, in the Yeom’s novels, disillusive ego is changed to ‘cruel and cynical hidden observer’ and goes looking down chaotic colonial modernity. Consequently the logic explaining Yeom’s literature by the rule of ‘national consciousness’ is a kind of over-determination.
