중국 서사의 전파와 조선적 수용의 가능성

Abstract

There have been substantial amount of discussions regarding the impact of Chinese narrative literature on Joseon until today. The propagation of Chuanqi (傳奇, fantasy novel) style literature from China to Joseon, especially the transmission of Jian-deng-xin-hua (剪燈新話), had enabled the early establishment of Korean narrative literature. It also resulted in the extraordinary achievement, the Geum-o-shin-hua (金鰲新話), in Joseon. There had been also Hua-ben (話本, story-telling script style) novels and Romance (才子佳人) novels during late Joseon dynasty that had translated, adapted or revised the originals in Chinese in various ways. These novels had been distributed by the diplomatic delegations to China who had purchased the books in China, or, they had been accommodated directly and indirectly when Chinese military forces had been in Joseon during the invasions of Japan and Hu(胡) of China. There are many existing literature and previous studies on these subjects. This study explores the new possibility in the accommodation of Chinese narrative literature by Joseon in relation to the creation and propagation of Jangheung-gajunghoe-jinjusam (蔣興哥重會珍珠衫) which had been published in the Yoose-myeongeon (喩世明言) by Feng Menglong (馮夢龍, 1574-1646). The Eowoo-yadam (於于野談, historical romance novels by Eowoo) by Eowoo-dang Yoo Mong-in (柳夢寅, 1559-1623) suggests interesting information in this regard. In this study, a new possibility of propagation and accommodation will be empirically approached by comparing and analyzing the relationship of these two literary works. To be noted is that the process of propagation and accommodation was more than simple literary propagation. The Chinese narrative literature had been orally transmitted in addition to literary transmission. Then the oral transmission had been adapted to the social environment of Joseon and it had been settled down as literature again. In other words, it is possible to confirm the existence of the “Joseon style accommodation process” of narrative literature. Till today, when discussing the impact of Chinese narrative literature on Joseon, the information examination of literary transmission was the limitation. It is hoped that this study would provide with an opportunity that such examinations would advance to a new stage beyond the literary information examination.
