Abstract
Rousseau presents the walk and writing of self examination as educational practices that educators must adhere to in The Confessions, Rousseau, Judge of Jean-Jacques: Dialogues, and The Reveries of the Solitary Walker. First, walk is a practice that strives to lose unnecessary social desires and be conscious of one’s inner conscience in a natural sense by adding a vacuum to the existing way of life. Next, writing of self examination after the walk is the practice of expressing and examining oneself concretely according to the voice of conscience. After all, for an educator, walk and writing of self examination are self educational practices that reflect on the rational life that existing society explains as exemplary and pursue a humane life with one’s own conscience. An educator’s self educational practice is encouraged and continued through friendship with friends. In this process, the educator generates work as a residue of self education. An educator’s work can make readers practice self education spontaneously. In this respect, the educator’s self education realizes other education by forming friendship with anonymous readers through his works. Rousseau shows the life of an educator who is exiled from society and forced into solitude but who nevertheless did not give up walk and writing of self examination.
