ERIS 모델 기반의 중소기업 생존요인에 관한 실증연구: 기술보증기금 이용 청년 창업기업을 중심으로

초록

우리나라 경제에서 차지하는 중소기업의 중요성에도 불구하고, 창업 초기 생존율은 여전히 낮은 수준에 머무르고 있다. 이에 따라 창업 생태계의 생존율을 높이기 위한 다양한 연구의 필요성이 제기된다. 본 연구는 ERIS 모델(창업자, 자원, 산업 환경, 전략)을 활용하여 청년 창업기업의 생존 요인을 규명하고자 하였다. ERIS 모델은 벤처･창업기업의 성장과 성공 요인을 분석하는 데 사용되며, 기존의 국내 연구는 사례 중심이거나 일부 요인만을 반영한 양적 연구로 제한되어 있었다. 본 연구에서는 ERIS 모델의 모든 요인을 포함하여 청년 창업기업의 생존을 실증 분석하였다. 연구 변수는 창업자의 기술 지식 수준, 지식재산권 보유 규모, 시장 경쟁 상황, 경영 전략으로 정의하였다. 연구 대상은 2014년 기술보증기금을 이용한 958개의 청년 창업기업이고, 생존 관찰 기간은 5년으로 설정하여 2019년 말 현재 생존 정보를 수집하였다. 실증 분석 결과, ERIS 모델의 모든 요인이 유의수준 0.05 내에서 청년 창업기업의 생존에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 연구 모형의 AUC는 0.638로, 분류 정확도 평가 기준을 충족하였다. 이를 통해 청년 창업기업의 생존을 위해서는 창업자의 기술적 역량의 함양과 기술자원의 확보, 전략적인 시장진입 및 경영 전략의 필요성을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 ERIS 모델을 통해 청년 창업기업의 생존을 규명한 국내 최초의 연구로서 차별점을 갖고 있으며, ERIS 모델의 각 요인이 청년 창업기업의 생존을 위한 선행요인이라는 연구 결과를 제시함으로써 기업생존연구의 확대에 기여하고, 생존율 제고를 위한 정책 도출 및 성공 창업을 위한 실무적인 시사점 도출에 기여하였다.

Abstract

Despite the importance of SMEs to the South Korean economy, the survival rate of startups remains low. This raises the need for various studies to increase the survival rate of the startup ecosystem. This study aims to identify the survival factors of youth startups by utilizing the ERIS model. The ERIS model is utilized to analyze the growth and success factors of venture and startups, and existing domestic studies are either case-based or limited to quantitative studies that reflect only some factors. This study empirically analyzed the survival of youth startups by including all factors in the ERIS model. The research variables are defined as the level of technological knowledge of the founders, the size of intellectual property holdings, the market competition situation, and management strategies. The study population is 958 selected youth startups that were funded by the KOTEC in 2014, and the survival observation period is set to 5 years, and the survival information is collected as of the end of 2019. The empirical analysis showed that all factors in the ERIS model have a statistically significant impact on the survival of youth startups within the significance level of 0.05. The AUC of the research model was 0.638, which met the criteria for classification accuracy. This study suggests that it is necessary to cultivate the technological competence of entrepreneurs, secure technological resources, and strategically enter the market and develop management strategies in order to survive. This study is differentiated as the first study in South Korea to identify the survival of youth startups through the ERIS model, and by presenting the results of the study that each factor in the ERIS model is an antecedent factor for the survival of youth startups, this study contributes to the expansion of firm survival studies, derives policies to improve the survival rate, and draws practical implications for successful startups.
