Abstract
Various reagents have been used to develop latent fingerprints from porous surfaces. Among them, 1,2-indandione/zinc(1,2-IND/Zn) and 1,8-diazafluoren-9-one(DFO) can be used regardless of various colors and complex backgrounds. Appropriate forensic light sources and filters should be used for fluorescence of developed latent fingerprints using 1,2-IND/Zn and DFO. In this study, In this study, we investigated the combination of light source and filter to observe clear fluorescence of latent fingerprint developed by 1,2-IND/Zn and DFO. For 1,2-IND/Zn, we could observe clear fluorescent fingerprints at the 505 nm wavelength when using LPF540, OG550, 555 filters and home-manufactured filter and at 530 nm wavelengths when using OG590 and 650 filters. For DFO, we could observe clear fluorescent fingerprints at 505 nm wavelengths when using LPF540, 555 filters and home-manufactured filter and at 530 nm wavelength when using 610 filter. The combination of the light source and the filter recommended in the literature could observe fluorescence of latent fingerprints developed by 1,2-IND/Zn and DFO, but we could also observe more clear fluorescence of developed latent fingerprints by using other combinations of light source and filter. Therefore, if information on the wavelength range of the light source used by the investigation agency and the transmittance of the filter are provided, it is possible to clearly observe the fluorescence of the latent fingerprint by using the combination of the appropriate light source and a filter in the latent fingerprint developed by each reagent.
