상산 지덕붕 시조의 내용과 구성에 관한 연구

본고는 상산 지덕붕(池德鵬, 1804~1872)의 문집 상산집(商山集)에 수록된 시조 13수를 대상으로 하여, 그 내용과 구성 방식을 중심으로 일련의 작품을 검토하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 지덕붕의 시조 13수는 문집 편재 순서에 따라 ‘제1수에서 제3수까지의 교훈시조’, ‘제4수에서 제9수까지의 자연과 삶’, ‘제10수에서 제12수까지의 이상향’, ‘제13수의 자기인식’이라는 네 가지 주제군으로 나눌 수 있으며, 이는 작가의 생애 궤적과 긴밀하게 연결되어 있다. 먼저, 교훈시조는 효(孝),소학(小學), 학문을 제재(題材)로 하여 타인에게 올바른 삶의 자세를 전달하고자 하였고, 이어지는 자연 소재의 시조에서는 봄에서 여름에 이르는 계절의 변화 속 자연의 풍광을 통해 이별과 노년의 소회, 은거의 삶 등 다양한 인생의 면모를 담아내었다. 이어지는 이상향에 관한 시조에서는 사마광(司馬光), 맹호연(孟浩然), 도연명(陶淵明)을 연상시키는 모티프를 활용하여 자연 속 한거(閑居)의 이상을 나타내었으며, 마지막 수에서는 작가의 호인 ‘상산(商山)’을 직접 등장시켜 속세와의 단절과 은거를 완성함으로써 작품 전체를 완결 지었다. 본 연구는 그간 단편적으로만 언급되었던 지덕붕 시조의 전모를 종합적으로 조명하고, 작품의 내용과 구성을 살펴 일련의 흐름을 찾아내는 데 기여하게 될 것이다.
Abstract
This study examines thirteen sijo poems included in Sangsan-jip (商山集) by Sangsan Ji Deokbung (1804-1872), analyzing their thematic structure and internal coherence. The poems are classified into four thematic groups—moral instruction, nature and life, utopian ideals, and self-reflection—which correspond closely to the trajectory of the poet’s life. Early poems emphasize Confucian values such as filial piety and scholarly ethics, while the middle poems portray seasonal imagery and reflections on solitude. The utopian section draws upon classical figures such as Si-ma Guang, Meng Hao-ran, and Tao Yuanming to evoke an ideal life of retreat grounded in moral integrity and harmony with nature. The final poem introduces Jideokbong’s pen name “Sangsan,” symbolizing a complete renunciation of secular life and concluding the thematic arc. Although the poems do not form a formal series, their sequential arrangement and thematic unity reveal a coherent poetic vision. This study seeks to reassess the literary and historical significance of Jideokbong’s sijo, which have previously received only fragmentary scholarly attention.
