Abstract

The ancient Greek lyrics are not only a feminine genre, which deconstructed the male-centered and militant epic genre, but the origination of "thinking" from traumatic love. Archilochos and Sappho, whose choir songs and personal lyrics remain fragmented, were the first to celebrate in verse the anguish of desire and the trauma of failed love, while Homeros sang of only the pleasure of desire in love. Such philosophers as Gilles Deleuze and Emmanuel Levinas object the philosophy of concepts and representation, and maintain that emotions like love, hatred, pain and sorrow, which have been disdained as inferior, originate "thinking" in the middle of suffering and trauma. In the history of Western philosophy, these emotions have been considered feminine and women have been excluded in philosophy and driven out of "thinking". Homeric epics did not know the unification of the body and the mind. In his epics, the gods were the metaphor of the mind, and the limps composed of muscles and joints were the metonymy of the body. Lyrical poets speculated that though the pleasure of love is the grace of the god Eros or the goddess, Aphrodite, it is the human who experiences erotic suffering. The split of the perception of love helped the lyrical poet realize that human being own emotions, and are the subject of "thinking".This essay will show, first, the historical and philosophical condition for the transition to the lyrics from epics in the ancient Greek, secondly, the concepts of the body and the mind in Homeric epics, and thirdly the origination of "thinking" from traumatic love of erotic suffering through the analysis of Archilochos's and Sappho's lyrics.
