Abstract
This paper researches on the realistic deterrence strategy lessoned from the strategic thinkers specialized on the modern warfare. The core element, lost-to-benefit, of deter -rence is one of the concepts that generates realistic strategies. Denial deterrence is the one that predicts the certainty and ability of control with regard to the lost-to-benefit and vulnerability of deterring power as well. In general, retaliation deterrence means deterrence against nuclear powers that has limitations in reality. Accordingly, practical deterrence is deduced by the lessons drawn from modern aspects of war reflecting vulnerability of denial deterrence and limitations of retaliation deterrence. This inquiry maintains that the denial deterrence strategy based on the conventional military force is limited because of the catastrophic disaster of war. Rather, this paper suggests to apply a retaliation deterrence strategy capable of paralyzing the enemy's war-carrying will and having self-deterring abilities with C4ISR.
