『손자병법』에 사용된 교(交)의 개념에 관한 연구: 벌교(伐交)의 교에 관한 현대적 해석을 중심으로

『손자병법』에 나오는 벌교(伐交)의 ‘교(交)’에 관한 현대적 해석은 외교, 부대들의 연결, 결속으로 대별되고 해석에 따라 『손자병법』에 대한 군사적 이해가 달라지나, 이에 관한 구체적인 분석 연구는 찾아보기 어렵다. 이 연구에서는 『손자병법』에 사용된 ‘교’의 의미를 검토하고, 특히 벌교의 ‘교’에 관한 현대적 해석들을 타당성과 유용성 측면에서 검토한다. 연구 결과 『손자병법』에 사용된 ‘교’는 일의적이지 않고 문맥에 따라 다양한 의미로 사용된다는 점을 확인하였다. 또한 벌교의 ‘교’에 대한 현대적 해석으로 외교나 부대들의 연결, 결속으로 해석하는 것은 모두 타당하다고 볼 수 있다. 한편 유용성 측면에서 볼 때, 벌교의 ‘교’를 결속으로 해석하는 것은 『손자병법』을 통해 추가적인 군사적 지침을 도출할 수 있도록 하고, 벌모(伐謀)와 벌교의 개념을 국가전략 차원에서부터 용병술 차원에 이르기까지 모든 차원으로 확장하며, 『손자병법』을 보다 유기적이고 체계적으로 이해하는 데 도움을 준다는 점에서 다른 해석보다 이점이 있다고 평가할 수 있다.
Abstract
The modern interpretation of “交” in “The Art of War”, particularly in the context of “伐交”, is distinguished as diplomacy, the junction of the enemy's forces, and solidarity. Depending on the interpretation, the military understanding of “The Art of War” varies. However, it is difficult to find a specific analysis study on this topic. This study aims to review the meaning of “交” as used in “The Art of War”. Specifically, modern interpretations of “交” within “伐交” are examined for validity and utility. The study confirms that the meanings of “交” in “The Art of War” are not uniform; it encompasses various meanings depending on the context. Moreover, it is reasonable to interpret it as diplomacy, the junction of the enemy's forces, or solidarity as a contemporary understanding of “交” within “伐交”. Conversely, regarding utility, interpreting the “交” within “伐交” as Solidarity offers advantages over alternative interpretations. It facilitates the derivation of additional military guidelines from “The Art of War”, extends the concepts of “伐謀” and “伐交” to all levels, from National Strategy level to Military Art level, and fosters a more organized and systematic comprehension of “The Art of War”.
