Abstract
Purpose: This study investigated dental hygiene students' career identity and self-worth according to their general characteristics and understand the relationship between their career identity and self-esteem. Method: Data were obtained from a cross-sectional survey of 160 dental hygiene students. Participants in the study were recruited when they attended 4 Dept. of dental hygiene university. Data were collected by means of questionnaire from March 24 through to May 31, 2010. Career identity was measured by the 18-items and self-esteem was measured by the 10-items. The data was analysed with t-test, One-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient using the SPSS program. Result: There were different results of self-esteem according to each subject's satisfaction of their major, major satisfaction and age, but the result of career identity self-worse did not have much difference according to age, satisfaction of major, desired work place. The relationship between career identity and self-worse has a high correlation(r=0.266). Conclusion: It is necessary to find out elements to influence dental hygiene students' career identity and self-worse and develop a program that can improve student's career identity and self-worse based on the result of the above research.
