Abstract

Objective: This study aims to provide basic data that can help prevent periodontal disease and reduce its incidence by analyzing the effects of college students' lifestyles and oral hygiene care habits on their experience of oral symptoms related to periodontal disease. Methods: Data from 171 college students in region D were collected and analyzed using cross-tabulation and logistic regression analysis. Results: Oral symptoms related to periodontal disease were high in the groups that experienced excessive stress, consumed alcohol, did not get enough sleep, brushed their teeth less than twice a day, did not use oral care products, and did not receive regular scaling. The factors influencing the experience of oral symptoms related to periodontal disease were stress, sleeping hours, number of times a day brushing teeth, use of oral care products, and regular scaling, with an explanatory power of 65.2%. Conclusions: These results suggest that, to prevent periodontal disease in college students, it is necessary to establish an educational program that can improve lifestyle and oral hygiene care habits, such as reducing stress by forming lifestyle habits promoting high-quality sleep and actively practicing oral hygiene care.
