본 연구는 전국사업체조사(2014~2019년)와 대형 서점 출점 자료를 사용해 대형 서점 출점이 소매 서점 수와 고용에 미친 영향을 고정효과모형으로 분석하였다. 대형 서점 출점은 소매 서점 수에 유의한 영향을 주지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 대기업 서점 출점은 소매 서점 종사자 수에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 반면 중고 서점 출점은 종사자 수를 유의하게 감소시켰다. 또한, 비임금 근로자보다 임금 근로자의 계수추정치가 더 크게 나타나 대형 서점 출점으로 인해 일정 규모 이상의 소매 서점 중심으로 규모가 축소되었음을 보여준다. 이상의 결과는 서점업 보호 정책의 효과성과 대상 및 기간에 대한 시사점을 제공한다.
Abstract
This study analyzed the impact of large bookstore opening on the number of establishments and workers in retail bookstores using the Census on Establishments (2014-2019) and bookstore data. The opening of large bookstores does not have a significant effect on the number of retail bookstores. The opening of large corporate bookstores does not have a significant effect on the number of workers, but the opening of used bookstores significantly reduces the number of workers in retail bookstore. The finding that the coefficient for wage workers is larger than that for non-wage workers indicates that retail bookstores above a certain size are more affected by the opening of large bookstores than single-person retail bookstores. The above results provide implications on the effectiveness, target, and period of retail bookstore protection policies.
