생성형 AI는 북한을 어떻게 설명하는가: 챗GPT와 클로바X 비교를 중심으로

초록

본 연구는 생성형 AI 서비스가 북한을 어떻게 설명하는지 탐색적으로 알아보고자 했다. 오늘날 이 서비스는 단순 반복 작업의 업무 자동화와 전문 지식에 필요한 자료 수집, 정리, 번역 등 활용 범위가 점차 커지고 있다. 그중 북한 관련 정보는 편향성과 거짓 정보, 불명확한 출처 등이 문제가 되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 생성형 AI 서비스가 북한 관련 정보를 어떻게 생산하고 있는지 파악함으로써 보다 나은 정보 생산 및 활용 방안을 제안하고자 한다. 구체적으로, 북한 사회 ‘인식’, ‘태도’, ‘전망’이라는 주제를 중심으로, 오픈 AI가 출시한 챗GPT와 네이버의 하이퍼 클로바X의 데이터를 비교·분석했다. 분석결과, 챗GPT는 부정과 긍정 정보를 균형적으로 생산하고 있지만, 클로바X는 부정적인 의견을 주로 제시하는 것으로 나타났다. 북한에 대한 향후 전망에 대해서도 다소 의견 차이가 발생했다. 본 연구는 생성형 AI 서비스가 생산하는 북한 관련 정보를 실험적으로 탐색했다는 점에서 의미를 가진다. 나아가, 북한 관련 정보 생산의 객관성, 유용성을 높이기 위한 학술적·산업적 방안의 필요성을 제안했다는 데 의미를 가진다.

Abstract

This study aims to explore how generative AI services describe North Korea. Today, the scope of such services is expanding, ranging from automating repetitive tasks to collecting, organizing, and translating materials that require specialized knowledge. From the user's perspective, there is a growing need to reprocess objective and diverse information in a way that suits specific contexts. Among such information, North Korea-related content poses challenges such as bias, misinformation, and unclear sources. Accordingly, this study seeks to understand how generative AI services produce North Korea-related information, with the goal of proposing better methods for the production and use of such information. Specifically, this research focuses on the themes of "perception," "attitude," and "outlook" on North Korean society, comparing and analyzing data from ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, and HyperCLOVA X, a product of Naver. The analysis reveals that ChatGPT produces a balanced mix of both negative and positive information, whereas HyperCLOVA X tends to present predominantly negative opinions. Differences in opinions were also observed regarding the future outlook of North Korea. This study holds significance in its experimental exploration of North Korea-related information generated by AI services. Furthermore, it highlights the need for academic and industrial measures to enhance the objectivity and utility of information related to North Korea.
