이 연구는 특정 행사 기념 음악공연의 특성과 의미를 통해 당시 북한 사회 흐름과 정책적 의도를 파악할 수 있다는 전제에서 2023년 신년경축대공연을 연구대상으로 하였다. 이전 신년경축공연과는 전혀 다른 형태로 구성되었다는 점에 주목해 그 의미와 특징을 살펴보고 북한 당국이 의도하는 정책적 메시지를 분석하는 데 목적을 두었다. 이번 공연은 빙상무용을 위한 특설무대를 마련하고 합창, 설화, 대규모 인원 등의 공연구성으로 볼 때 대공연으로 규정된다. 공연구성의 주요 특징은 첫째, 새로운 가수의 등장과 역할, 둘째, 편곡을 통한 변화 지향, 셋째, 특별무대 설치와 빙상공연을 추가한 형식의 변화 등이다. 이번 공연의 의미로는 첫째, 남한 노래의 표절, 둘째, 이벤트성 공연예술의 변화, 셋째, 설화시를 통해 드러난 북한 내부 상황 등이다. 2023년 신년경축공연의 구성과 형식이 이후 2024년, 2025년 신년경축공연에서도 똑같이 재현된다는 점에서 공연 변화의 과정을 후속연구로 진행해야 한다.
Abstract
On the premise that one can figure out the flow of North Korean society and the policy intention of the North Korean regime at the time through the characteristics and meanings of a musical performance to commemorate a certain event, this study focuses on the Grand Art Performance for New Year 2023. Paying attention to the fact that it was organized in a completely different form from its predecessors, the study aims to examine its meanings and characteristics and analyze the policy messages intended by the authorities of North Korea. This performance is defined as a grand performance, judging from its venue, a special stage, and its stage composition including large choruses and tables. The principal characteristics of its composition are the appearance and roles of new singers, the orientation to changes through arrangement, and the changed performance forms such as the installation of a special stage and performance on ice(ice show). The grand art performance holds a couple of meanings. First, it plagiarized South Korean songs. Second, it displayed changes to performance art like an event. Third, it reflected the internal situation of North Korea through narrative poems. A follow-up study needs to investigate the process of performance changes since the composition and form of the Grand Art Performance for New Year 2023 were repeated the same for 2024 and 2025.
