Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the structural relationship between perceived autonomy support, training attitude, and sport confidence among high school Taekwondo athletes. Method Data were collected from 342 high school Taekwondo athletes registered with the Korea Taekwondo Association under the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee in 2024. A survey method was employed, and the collected data were analyzed using SPSS and AMOS 23. Confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analysis were conducted to assess the validity and reliability of the measurement instruments. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling were subsequently performed to test the research hypotheses. Results The results revealed that, first, perceived autonomy support significantly influenced the athletes' training attitude. Second, autonomy support had a positive effect on sport confidence. Third, training attitude was found to significantly affect sport confidence. Conclusion Sport confidence is a critical factor for Taekwondo athletes to demonstrate their full potential. To enhance sport confidence, it is necessary for coaches to move away from authoritarian and hierarchical relationships and instead provide autonomy-supportive behaviors. Additionally, athletes' proactive attitudes toward training participation can further maximize their confidence and performance.
