아동의 정서 비수용 경험에 대한 질적 연구

본 연구는 한국 아동들이 부모로부터 정서적으로 비수용되는 것을 어떻게 인식하고 경험하는지를 살펴봄으로써 서양과 한국의 정서 비수용의 차이점을 살펴보았다. 그리고 우리는 정서 비수용의 결과로 아이들이 불러일으키는 반응을 이해하고자 하였다. 인터뷰는 초등학교 4~6학년 아동 20명을 대상으로 진행되었다. 그리고 데이터를 질적으로 분석했다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본 연구는 기존의 정서 비수용 이론이 한국 아동에게 적용 가능함을 확인하였다. 또한 기존 이론에서 확인되지 않았던 강압적이고 통제적인 반응과 무관심한 반응이 추가로 발견되었다. 둘째, 부모가 좋은 전략과 의도를 가지고 있다 하더라도 아이를 정서적으로 비수용한다면 아이의 정서발달에 부정적인 영향을 미친다는 사실을 확인했다. 셋째, 아동은 정서 비수용에 대한 부정적인 경험이 있더라도 부모로부터 원하는 공감과 지지를 인식하고 있었다.
Abstract
This study examined the difference between emotional invalidation in the West and in Korea, by examining how Korean children perceive and experience being emotionally invalidated by their parents. And we wanted to understand the response evoked in children as a result of emotional invalidation. Interviews were conducted with 20 children in the 4th to 6th grades in elementary school. The data were qualitatively analyzed. The results of the study are as follows. First, the study confirmed that the existing theory of emotional invalidation is applicable to Korean children. In addition, coercive and controlling responses and indifferent responses, which were not confirmed in the existing theory, were additionally discovered. Second, it confirmed that even if parents had good strategies and intentions, if they emotionally invalidated their child, it would affect the child’s emotional development negatively. Third, even if children had a negative experience of emotional invalidation, they were aware of the empathy and support they wanted from their parents.
