Abstract

This paper is about the fact that the evaluation of Yeom-Sangsup is made up upon the abandonment of memories for construction of pure national literature which is after being independent from Japan. After joining the Maeil Sinbo in 1934, Mr. Yeom began to write popular navels. However, he sometimes cut out the fact that he worked at Mansun Ilbo from his literacy reminiscence. In the work 「Morankkot pil ttae(Until peony blossoms)」; written when he entered Maeil Sinbo, Yeom expressed Chosunsung through the form of popular novels with the view of imperial exoticism and discussion about conquest of modern which is famous in Japan, 1930s. The students, who study about Mr. Yeom's literature, usually drop off or even beautify this kind of Yeom's history. Moreover they claim that after being independent from Japan, overall in Korean literature there is no vestiges of Japanese imperialism in Yeom's literature except during wartime. By denying the fact about vestiges of colonial awareness, people studying about Yeom actually keeps the concept like this. In the past study, it could be a similar reason that why there is a little discussion about Yeom's literacy activity. We put Yeom in the front of our modern literature by evaluating that he kept our own nationality without any effect even under being occupied by Japan. However the whole concept like this to make purify our modern national literature history actually deleted almost ten years of Yeom's literature history. After all, Yeom-Sangsup as the patriotic and the resistant national writer, and national literature without tainted by occupation by Japan was possible because of this kind of memory loss.
