본 연구는 2005년부터 본격화된 대만 내 중국 출신 결혼이주자들(이후 대륙배우자)의 무용강좌에 주목하고 이들의 '춤추는 행위'가 대만 내 일상생활에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 밝히고자 하였다. 먼저 대륙배우자들은 대만 내에서 미묘한 중국-대만 간의 관계 때문에 다른 나라 출신 결혼이주자들과 구분된 시민권을 갖게 된다. 그러나 대만 내 생활 적응 교육은 다른 나라 출신 결혼이주자와 구분되지 않은 채 진행된다. 그 중 무용 강좌는 가장 인기가 많은 강좌이다. 대륙배우자들은 무용강좌를 들으며 자신이 중국에서 직간접적으로 경험했던 '무용'의 의미를 상기시킨다. 대륙배우자 무용단은 처음에는 취미를 공유하는 친목모임으로 시작되었지만, 무대에 서는 경험이 반복되며 대륙배우자들에게 자아실현과 높은 자아효능감을 제공한다. 어떤 대륙배우자들은 대만 현지의 무용강좌를 더 수강하며 공연의 전문성을 높이기도 하고, 어떤 대륙배우자들은 '배우는 무용단원'에서 새로운 무용단을 만들어 독립하기도 한다. 이후 자신이 속한 위치에 따라 다시 대만-중국의 경계를 넘나들며 무용 강습을 계속하거나, 대만에 남아 자녀들이나 다른 대륙배우자들에게 무용을 가르치며 후속 세대를 육성하기도 한다. 이러한 대륙배우자 무용단의 분화와 재생산은 대만 정부의 ‘개인의 건강한 몸과 마음’을 만드는 의도에서 더 나아가 대륙배우자들에게 ‘경제적으로 자립하는 사회의 일원’임을 느끼게 해 준다.
Abstract
This study focused on the dance classes of Chinese marriage migrants(mainland spouses) in Taiwan, which began in earnest in 2005 and attempted to clarify how their ‘dance’ affects their lives in Taiwan. First, mainland spouses have graduated citizenship distinct from foreign marriage migrants because of the subtle China-Taiwan relationship. However, there is no distinction in education for adapting in Taiwan between mainland spouses and foreign marriage migrants. Among these classes, the dance course is the most popular. Taking dance classes reminds mainland spouses of the meaning of ‘dance,’ which they directly or indirectly experienced in China. Second, the dance club, which started as a social gathering to share hobbies, provides self-actualization and high self-efficacy to mainland spouses through the repeated experience of standing on a stage. Some mainland spouses take more local dance classes in Taiwan to increase their professionalism in performances; other mainland spouses form new dance clubs from the ‘learning dancers’ to become dance teachers. Later, depending on their location, some mainland spouses cross the border between Taiwan and China and continue their dance classes. Others remain in Taiwan to teach dance to their children and other mainland spouses and nurture the next generation. The differentiation and proliferation of the mainland spouses’ dance clubs make them feel that they are members of an economically self-sufficient society, beyond the Taiwanese government's intention of ‘creating a healthy body and mind’ for individuals.
