영화는 초창기부터 시간의 변형을 실험해왔다. 본 연구는 단순한눈요기, 혹은 움직임의 극적인 표현으로 여겨지는 고속 촬영(High speed cinematography)이 지니고 있는 다양한 의미를 분석하고자 한다. 고속으로 촬영된 영화의 이미지는 관객에게 느린 화면으로 지각된다. 느린 화면은 일련의 시간으로부터 유동적인 새로운 시간을 재구축하는한 방법이다. 시간의 압축과 팽창은 영화의 기본 원리이자 효과이다. 시간의 변형을 담고 있는 느린 화면은 영화 기술의 발전에 따라, 영화를 바라보는 감독과 영화 이론가의 관점에 따라 다양하게 변화하고발전하였다. 앙드레 바쟁은 기계적인 변형이 만들어 내는 느린 화면을 거부한다. 그는 가속 촬영에 의한 기계적인 느린 화면은 정상적인지각의 조건을 감추는 허위의 조작이라고 비판한다. 바쟁에게 느린화면은 관객을 농락하는 위조의 장치일 뿐이다.
Abstract
Films tested distortion of time from the very beginning of the industry. This study analyzes various features that high speed cinematography has, which considered as a simple eye delight or dynamic expression of movement. Images that have been captured in high speed is perceive as slow motion to the viewers. Slow motion is one way to realign flexible time from the series of time. Compression and expansion of time is basic principle and effect of the film. As the technology improved, high speed cinematography that shows distortion of time was also developed and varied reflecting the view of director and film theorist.
