목회상담 활성화를 위한 실태조사 연구

Abstract

This study is aimed to explore the present situation of pastoral counseling in Korea and to get an outlook for the future. For this purpose, a nationwide survey was distributed to pastors, graduates of pastoral counseling and counselors. The participants were 744 in total, with 235 males and 508 females; 185 pastors, 415 graduates, and 144 counselors. They were sampled from six provinces including Seoul. The participants' church affiliations were diverse as more than ten denominations were represented. The questionnaires for the pastors, graduates and counselors shared three common areas: demographic data, counseling situations in churches, and needs/expectations for the KAPC (Korean Association of Pastoral Counseling). Each group also had exclusive items representing its own major concerns as well. Frequency analysis was done for the participants' responses, and tests were given to test the differences in responses among the three groups, and among the subgroups within each group. The survey revealed a wide spread of opinion on a variety of critical issues. Limitations of this research, and implications for pastoral counseling in Korea are discussed.
