초록
This authors explore the hidden history of those ex-Zainichi North Korean defectors who are currently living in Japan. We focus on the groups who went to North Korea between 1959 and 1984 under the Repatriation Project, left North Korea to live in Japan, and created their own transnational networks covering Japan and North Korea. Today, more than 300 ex-Zainichi North Korean defectors live in Japan craving better life. The main reason for the migration of ex-Zainichi from North Korea is that remittances from their country of origin (Japan) have been cut off, meaning they cannot build a life without the remittances. Ex-Zainichi North Korean defectors in Japan have now become senders to help their family survive in North Korea. We have analyzed the transnational network from 1959 to the present that connects migrants in Japan, North Korea, and South Korea across generations.
