초록

This paper offers a review of dramatic activities done by Koreans staying in many areas of China including Sian and Yanan from the late nineteen thirties to the liberation in 1945. This paper is primarily focused on the activities of Han, Yuhan who played a very active part in the Independence Army, Choi, Chae and Kim, Changman who were actively engaged in Chosun Volunteers Army, and Kim, Saryang who joined them later. They not only took military actions against Japanese army as Independence Army or Chosun Volunteers Army respectively, but did artistic activities also for the ordinary Chinese and the combined armies of Chosun and China. They distinguished themselves in propaganda and agitation through dramatic activities. Among them, Han became as famous an anti-Japan musician in China as Jung, Ryulsung who was engaged in Korean Volunteers Army and established in composing music. Actor Choi the formermovie-star, also gained recognition through his ability and was invited as the leader of the vanguard theater of the Eighth Route Army. These artists united and cooperated with one another and even shared major repertory, though each of them belonged to different regiments. However, they splitted over according to their ideology from the 1940's and settled down after the liberation in the south, north Korea or Yanbian China. This paper analyzes the general aspects of the dramatic activities done within China as armed struggle against Japan, and focuses on two works, <kangjebyung> Compulsory Military service and <Bottoleu kunbok> Military Uniform of Bottol. <kangjebyung> shows the miserable reality where all the youths of the colonized Chosun were forced out to the battle fields and dramatizes impressively the process of defeating Japanese armies with collaboration between Chosun and China. <Bottoleu kunbok> describes the harsh struggle of younger brother Bottol and young women from the village trying to help Chilsung, a village young man who fled from the Japanese army. This work is set in the deserted village by repeated impressment, conscription, arrest of political offenders, and recruitment of comfort women. The involvement of the escape incident df Chilsung who has finished the recruit training adds the dramatic tension and heightens the dramatic effect.
