Abstract
Modern society has looted Earth's resources and caused enormous destruction of the ecosystem. This is because modern capitalism is driven by the logic of production for production and blind growth. As a result, we are witnessing an ecological crisis, including today's global warming. In this context, today's society is raising a new task of degrowth, and today's critical theory should also pay attention to these ecological tasks. This article argues that Adorno's philosophy, especially his criticism of natural domination, can help carry out philosophical reflections on the degrowth discourse. The characteristic of his criticism of natural domination is that, first, the connection between natural domination and human domination was theorized. Second, he criticizes the productivity supremacy shared by industrial capitalism and traditional Marxism. In this sense, the article argues that it is necessary to examine the classical theory of Adorno to enter a degrowth society where life and nature are prioritized over profits beyond ‘production for production.’
