Abstract
This study analyzed change of ski season period and snowmaking for future projections of ski industry by regions (northern mountainous region of Gangwon-do, northern Seoul metropolitan area, central, southern) by climate change. This study used the observed 39-year (1973~2011) climate data and projected 89-year (2012~2100) data based on the A1B scenario of weather stations of adjacent to the Yongpyeong, Yangji, Muju and Eden valley ski resort. The opening day of ski resorts from northern and central region is similar to each other. But the opening day of the ski resorts of southern region is late than another region, and maintenance of snow quality which is the determination of closing day is unfavorable. The ski industry will be unfavorable to ski season period and snowmaking condition in South Korea. The ski resort of southern region is expected to open less than one month. Ski resort of northern mountainous region will be an advantage for revitalization of ski industry due to the least reduction of the number of snowmaking days in ski industry considering snowmaking.
