Abstract

This study examined the native habitat of Ilex crenata var. microphylla Maxim. ex Matsum that is spread throughout the eastern and western slope of Mt. Halla National Park, especially at the altitude of 500m~1,600m, from November 2009 to November 2010 in order to investigate the changes in leaf stomatal frequency of Ilex crenata var. microphylla Maxim. ex Matsum by the altitude of the eastern and western slope of Mt. Halla. The result of the study is as follows. With altitude getting higher, leaf stomatal frequency of Ilex crenata var. microphylla Maxim. ex Matsum by altitude of the eastern and western slope increased, and the higher the altitude, the lower temperature became, thusit is considered that relative humidity shows regional difference by drifted snow in winter and precipitation in summer owing to geographical traits. Unlike leaf stomatal frequency by altitude, it was investigated that leaf stomatal frequency changed by the eastern and western slope. The average leaf stomatal frequency on the western slope was more than the eastern. The eastern slope showed a tendency to be similar to the analysis by altitude, but the western slope was divided into 3 big groups. Overall, leaf stomatal frequency increased from the altitude of 1,200m, and the rolling of leaf stomatal frequency was higher on the eastern slope below 1,200m. It is considered that drifted snow or precipitation influences on leaf stomatal frequency, because it shows a tendency to be similar to the relative humidity on the eastern and western slope below 1,200m.
