고등학생의 학교 참여 예측 요인 탐색: 학생회 활동 및 학교 경영 참여를 중심으로

본 연구는 「한국교육종단연구 2013」의 6차년도 자료에 랜덤 포레스트 기법을 적용함으로써 고등학생의 학교 참여를 예측하는 요인들을 탐색적으로 도출하였다. 이와 함께 랜덤 포레스트 분석 결과 고교생의 학교 참여에 대한 예측력이 상대적으로 높은 것으로 나타난 변수들을 활용하여 OLS 및 학교 고정효과모형, 학교 확률효과모형 분석을 실시하고, 이를 통해 학생의 학교 참여에 대한 영향 요인을 확인하였다. 고교생의 학교 참여를 ‘학생회 활동 참여’와 ‘학교 경영 참여’로 구분하고 두 가지 참여 활동에 대한 예측 요인을 분석한 결과, 학생의 ‘학생회 활동 참여’에는 학생의 민주시민성 및 공동체 의식, 진로성숙도, 교사의 수업 방법, 석사학위 교원수 등이 주요한 영향 요인인 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 학생의 ‘학교 경영 참여’에는 교사-학생 관계, 수업 분위기, 교사 열의, 평가 방식, 수업 방법, 학생의 민주시민성과 공동체 의식, 학습활동 참여 정도 등이 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 위의 분석 결과에 기반하여 고등학생의 학교 참여를 활성화하기 위해서는 우선 교사들이 수업 방법 및 평가 방식 등을 개선하고 학생들과의 우호적인 관계 형성을 위해 노력해야 하며, 학생들 또한 권리 주체로서 스스로 공동체 의식과 민주시민성을 함양하기 위해 노력해야 함을 제안하였다. 그리고 정부 및 학교 차원에서도 고교생의 학교 참여를 지원하고 보장하기 위한 정책적인 노력을 기울일 필요가 있음을 시사점으로 제시하였다.
Abstract
This paper has attempted to reveal the factors predicting student participation in high schools by applying random forest analysis to data for the 6th year dataset of the Korean Education Longitudinal Study. This study has identified significant variables that affect student participation in high schools by utilizing the OLS, School Fixed Effect Model, and the School Random Effect Model based on the results of a random forest analysis. This study found that students’ perceptions of democratic citizenship & sense of community, career maturity, teaching methods, and the number of teachers with a master’s degree were effective variables in enhancing student participation in student committees. Furthermore, this study revealed that teacher-student relationships, class atmosphere, teacher enthusiasm, teaching & evaluation methods, students’ democratic citizenship, sense of community and the degree of student participation in lectures were critical factors in student participation in school management. Based on these results, this study implies that significant policy changes would result in enhanced student participation through the involvement of teachers, students, and government in individual high schools.
