Abstract
This paper is aimed to illustrate the nature of complement of result(CR henceforth) from a new viewpoint by examining the patient-oriented property of CR. According to the general definition, CR is a result situation which is caused by the activity of previous verb. There, however, are some problems in understanding CR mainly through its function of expressing 'result', so we need to explore the nature of CR from a new perspective. For this, in this paper, it will be suggested that the construction of CR is a morphological expression with the patient-oriented property. This paper is formed by following discussions: (1) to look over the elements and the functions of construction of CR as a morphological category; (2) to suggest the patient-oriented property of CR based on the fact that the CR is a core information of construction of CR and on the fact that CR is the statement for the situation of patient; (3) to examine the reason why CR often co-occurs with the causative mark, ba, or passive mark, bèi, based on the semantic relation between patient-oriented property and causative or passive property.
