본 연구의 목적은 탈성장론의 관점에서 지속가능발전교육(ESD)을 살펴보고, 교육과 사회 전환을 위한 ESD의 가능성을 탐색하는 것이다. 이러한 연구 목적을 위한 연구 내용은 다음과 같다. Ⅱ장에서는 ESD 개념의 등장과 전개 과정, 그리고 ESD에 대한 논쟁점을 살펴보고, Ⅲ장에서는 탈성장론의 문제의식과 지적 배경을 살펴볼 것이다. Ⅳ장에서는 탈성장론 관점에서 ESD를 살펴보고, 그로부터 ESD를 위한 시사점을 탐색할 것이다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 탈성장론으로부터 시사점을 얻은 ESD는 사회적 상상의 탈식민화를 강조하여 당연하게 가정해온 것 너머로의 전환 탐색을 가능하게 한다. 둘째, 비판적 접근의 ESD와 탈성장론은 비판교육학을 통해 접점을 갖는다. 급진적인 탈성장론은 ESD가 정치적 차원을 강조할 필요성을 시사하며, 지속가능성에 더하여 전환시대 요청되는 체제 너머로의 전환 탐색의 가능성을 강조한다. 셋째, 탈성장론은 공유재로서 교육에 대한 인식과 실천의 가능성을 시사한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to consider education for sustainable development (ESD) from the perspective of degrowth descourse and explore the potential of ESD for educational and social transformation. The research contents for this purpose were as follows. Chapter Ⅱ would examine the emergence and development process of the ESD concept, and criticism of ESD, and Chapter Ⅲ would examine the critical awareness and theoretical foundations of degrowth. Chapter Ⅳ would consider ESD from the perspective of degrowth and discuss how ESD could move forward by taking implications from degrowth. The research results were as follows. First, ESD, which draws implications from degrowth theory, emphasized the decolonization of social imagination, enabling exploration of transition beyond what has been taken for granted. Second, the critical approach of ESD and degrowth theory connected through critical pedagogy. Radical degrowth theory suggest the need for ESD to emphasize the political dimension, and in addition to sustainability, it emphasized the possibility of exploring transition beyond the system required in the transition era. Third, degrowth theory suggest the possibility of recognizing and practicing education as a commons.
