한중 수교 이후 한국영화 속에 재현된 중국인 디아스포라 연구

Abstract

It has been more than 120 years since first Chinese diaspora landed on Korea. They are largely classified into two groups; Old Chinese emigrants and New Chinese emigrants. This paper aims to analyze how Korean movies have pictured Chinese diaspora from a perspective of Korean and study its implication based on the analysis. In Korean movies, the Chinese diaspora can be divided into Old Chinese emigrants and New Chinese emigrants. They were often described as fraud marriage brides, lower class workers, small Chinese restaurant owners, or emigrants to other countries for political and economic reasons. Particularly, the Chinese diaspora in Korean movies, symbolized as mistreated women, show neglected strangers in the Korean society just like their history of immigration. As the time that Korea and China have grown a close diplomatic relationship, to avoid any unnecessary misunderstanding and prejudice from the fragmentary and extreme description, it is important to keep an objective and reasonable view pertaining to representing the movies.
