초록

본 논문의 목적은 여성이주 중 성·유흥노동자의 유입 및 흐름에 주목하여, 성·유흥산업에 유입되는 여성이주를 국제적 재생산노동분업(international division of reproductive labor)의 맥락에서 분석하는 것이다. 국제적 재생산노동분업이란 생산노동과 재생산노동이 성별로 또한 국제적으로 분업화된 것으로, 저개발국 여성이 개발국으로 이주하여 재생산노동을 담당하는 현상을 의미한다. 성·유흥산업으로 유입되는 여성이주에 대한 기존 연구는 성매매 유입 및 여성이주자를 인권침해의 피해자로 보는 시각에 집중하여 왔다. 반면, 본 논문은 성·유흥산업에 유입되는 여성이주를 가부장제와 전 지구적 자본주의가 상호 교차하는 맥락인 국제적 재생산노동분업의 구조 속에서 살펴본다. 본 논문의 장점은 기존에 자주 논의되지 않았던 성·유흥이주노동자를 다룸으로써 여성이주의 논의 대상을 단지 확대한다는 점을 넘어선다. 국제적 재생산노동분업의 맥락에서 여성이주를 살펴보는 것은, 이주를 결정하는 여성의 선택이 거시적 제도와 구조의 동학 속에서 어떻게 구성되는지, ‘이주의 여성화’가 어떻게 전 지구적 체계의 성불평등을 유지시키는데 기여하는지 등을 보여줄 수 있는 이점이 있다.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze women’s international migration to the sex/entertaining industries from the perspective of the international division of reproductive labor. The international division of reproductive labor refers to the internationally divided as well as gendered separation between productive labor and reproductive labor. That is, it implies that Third World women move to the First World where they mostly perform the reproductive labor of that First World. While many current studies on migrant sex workers/entertainers are largely concerned with the issues of sex trafficking and the violation of women’s human rights, this paper approaches the international migration of sex workers/entertainers from the perspective of the global and domestic structures of the international division of reproductive labor, where the systems of patriarchy and international capitalism intersect. This paper contributes to the addressing of how migrant sex workers/entertainers are connected to migrant domestic workers and marriage migrants, how migrant women’s choices are constituted within/by broad structures and institutions, and how the ‘feminization of migration’ renders the global system of gender inequality.
