Abstract

· Research topics: This study analyzes festival trends through media discourses, specifically comparing news articles and social media posts related to festivals. · Research background: As festivals play roles in regional development, cultural consumption, and the formation of public discourse, perspectives on them vary depending on the type of media. A comparative analysis is therefore needed to understand these differences. · Differences from prior research: While previous studies have mainly focused on specific festival case studies or single media sources, this research systematically compares and analyzes both news articles and social media data to highlight the discursive differences across media types. · Research method: Using text mining techniques such as TF-IDF analysis, matrix analysis, and topic modeling (LDA), this study analyzes 19,993 news articles and 84,242 social media posts collected from 2023 to August 2025. · Research results:News articles primarily featured public-oriented keywords such as “safety,” “economy,” and “policy,” whereas social media posts centered on emotional keywords like “travel,” “experience,” and “photos.” Topic modeling results also revealed that news discourse focused on policy and management, while social media discourse emphasized personal experiences and emotions. · Contribution points and expected effects: This study identifies the characteristics of media-specific discourse on festivals and provides foundational data that can inform future festival planning and promotional strategies.
