Abstract
· Research topics: This study aims to classify social welfare facilities in a semi-urban area based on their perceptions of service redundancy and resource adequacy, and to analyze differences in perceptions of service competition across the identified clusters. · Research background: With decentralization, functional overlap and resource imbalances among local facilities have become growing concerns. However, few studies have systematically explored these issues in semi-urban settings. · Differences from prior research: This study takes a different approach by focusing on perception-based classification rather than structural characteristics. · Research method: A K-means cluster analysis was conducted using survey data from 60 facilities in J City, located in Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea, followed by a comparison of competition-related perceptions across cluster. · Research results: The analysis identified three distinct clusters—resource-vulnerable/problem-recognizing type, resource-rich/improvement-seeking type, and resource-stable/status-accepting type. Perceptual differences across the clusters were statistically significant. · Contribution points and expected effects: The study offers practical evidence for developing differentiated and localized welfare policy strategies based on facility-level perceptions.
