본 연구의 주제는 우리나라 해양･해사분야에서 선원 지망생들의 성인지 감수성 문제를 시론적으로 다루어 보는 것이다. 전통적으로 선원은 남성 위주의 직종이었으나, 시대적 변화에 따라 여성의 진입이 점차 늘고 있다. 하지만 여전히 선원은 성별에 보수적인 직업이고, 성인지 태도와 성평등 문화가 정착되지 않아서 생기는 사건이 반복되었다. 이에 본 연구는 남녀 선원 지망생에 대해 성인지 감수성 도구를 맞춤형으로 개발하고, 탐색적인 조사를 하였다. 경험적 분석은 성인지 감수성 척도의 개발, 성인지 감수성 수준과 집단별 차이, 성인지 감수성의 인과구조 등에 초점을 맞추었다. 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 선원 지망생과 해기사 교육생을 위한 성인지 감수성 측정도구를 개발한 결과, 타당성과 신뢰성을 확인하였다. 둘째, 선원 지망생의 성인지 감수성은 전반적으로 보통의 수준이었다. 그런데 성별, 학년, 전공에 따른 집단차이가 명확하게 나타났다. 셋째, 성인지 감수성은 성평등 인식 및 태도와 인과관계를 갖고 있었다. 성인지 감수성 구성요인으로는 성에 대한 자기성찰, 성역할 고정관념, 성폭력에 대한 공감성, 성별에 대한 개방성, 성폭력에 대한 감정이입 등이었다. 결론에서는 이런 결과에 근거해서 정부의 정책 및 교육적 시사점을 도출하였다.
Abstract
The study aimed to empirically examine the issue of gender sensitivity among seafarer candidates in the maritime field of Korea. Traditionally, seafaring has been male-dominant profession, but the number of women entering the field continue to increase. Consequently, the coexistence of men and women and the importance of gender sensitivity have emerged as significant subjects for analysis. This study developed a gender sensitivity measurement tool for both male and female seafarer candidates. The empirical analysis focused on the development of the gender sensitivity scale, the level of gender sensitivity, the difference by sample groups, and the causality of gender sensitivity. The main results of the study are as follows. First, the validity and reliability of the gender sensitivity measurement tool for seafarer candidates were confirmed. Second, the gender sensitivity of seafarer candidates was moderate, with differences observed according to gender, grade, and major. Third, the components of gender sensitivity had a causal relationship with the perception of gender equality. In conclusion, the results of this study redefined diverse implications concerning gender perception in maritime college and also suggested the necessity of continued follow-up research and social consensus on the topic of gender awareness and gender equality in the seafarer curriculum of Korea.
