초록
This paper presents an overview of electoral redistricting issues in the US and analyzes its impact on the 2022 midterm elections. Redistricting, which occurs after the census, is influenced by political factors and further complicated by variations in state institutional frameworks. Despite claims that the 2020 redistricting process favored Republicans, the actual outcomes differed. The effects of redistricting remained uncertain due to Republican dominance in areas where they controlled the process. Although the Democratic Party led redistricting efforts in limited constituencies, they benefited from numerous contested areas. Notably, districts where bipartisan commissions and the judiciary played significant roles in redistricting, a trend that has gained momentum since 2010, saw Republicans securing many districts. A comprehensive analysis of the politicization of redistricting requires a thorough examination of state-level politics in the US.
