勿川 金鎭祜의 詩에 대하여

勿川 金鎭祜(1845-1908)선생은 寒洲 李震相(1818-1886)을 통해 退溪 理學의 정통을 이으면서 性齋 許傳(1797-1886)을 통해 星湖에서 비롯한 近畿南人의 학맥을 잇고, 고장의 선현인 南冥선생을 사숙하여 스스로의 학문세계를 성립시킨 학자요, 勿川書堂과 麗澤堂 등에서 講學으로 다수의 올바른 제자를 길러낸 큰 스승이었다. 晩醒 朴致馥을 통해서는 문학 방면의 영향을 많이 받았던 것으로 보인다. 또한 재야에 은거했던 山林處士였다.물천은 전문적인 문사로서 시인이라고 말 할 수는 없다. 그가 남긴 문집의 시를 통해 확인할 수 있다. 勿川의 시는 生活漢詩로 규정할 수 있을 듯 하다. 즉 학자와 교육자로서의 생활을 영위해 나가면서 同門의 선후배 학자들과 弟子, 鄕中人士, 姻戚黨과의 교유에 한시를 적극 활용하였다. 많은 양의 次(和)韻詩와 輓詩를 창작한 것이 바로 그 증거가 된다. 또 생활 주변에서 시의 소재를 찾아 작시하기도 하였고, 자신의 심회를 시 속에 녹이기도 하였다. 이 두 범주의 시를 통해 자신의 수양과 학문적 성찰을 시도하고 있는 것이 각별하다. 민족이 위기에 처한 상황에서 물천도 그러한 시대에 비교적 민감하게 반응하였고, 憫時憂國의 시편을 창작하였다. 그러나 현실에 대한 투철한 인식을 바탕으로 한 것은 아니었으므로 뚜렷한 현실주의적 성과를 거두지 못한 점은 아쉬움으로 남는다. 마지막으로 비록 물천이 남명의 학통을 이은 것은 아니지만 동향의 선배로서 남명에게 많은 영향을 받았던 것으로 보이는 바 몇 편의 시를 통해 확인할 수 있었다. 남명을 百世師로 숭앙한 것에서 뚜렷이 확인된다.
Abstract
Moolcheon, Kim Jin-ho(1845-1908) succeeded to legitimacy of Lee Hwang's teachings through Hanju, Lee Jin-sang(1818-1886), and succeeded to learning of Geungi-Namin arisen from Seongho, keeping in touch with Seongjae, Huh Jeon(1797-1886). He took Nam-myong, an ancient sage of his place, as his model and formed his own system of learning. He also taught many upright students in Moolcheon-seodang(a private school) and Yi-taek-jae. I think he was affected very much by Manseong, Park Chi-bok in the literary field. In addition he was a scholar in retirement. Looking through his collection of works, we can see that he didn't specialize in poetry. I think his poems are mostly about everyday life. He was only a scholar and educator. He made the good use of poems in keeping company with his seniors, juniors, village people and relatives. He wrote many poems following the rimes used by another and many poems to cherish the dead. He composed poems on everyday life and described his thoughts and feelings in poetry. Specially through these kinds of poems, he tried moral training and academic examination. In a critical situation of his nation, he showed a sensitive reaction comparatively and wrote poems on the spirit of the times and patriotism. But his poems was not based on radical reality, so I feel at a loss without his remarkable works on realism. In conclusion, there is one thing more. Though Moolcheon didn't succeed the scholastic mantle of Nam-myong, I can see that he was quite affected by Nam-myong as a senior of the same village. Some of his poems prove it. He looked up to Nam-myong as his mentor.
