본 논문은 한국에서의 그람시 수용에 깔려 있는 맥락적 유사성에 주목하여, 그람시 자체의 맥락에서 분석된 그람시 이론을 통하여 우리나라에서 진행된 ‘민주화 과정’을 해명하고자 했다. 필자는 우선 한국에서 그람시 수용 과정을 분석함으로써 ‘혁명은 왜 실패했는가’라는 그람시의 질문이 한국에서도 동일한 형태로 출현했다고 보았다. 그러나 이 질문은 구조적 차원이 아니라 국면적 차원에서 제기된 것이다. 이 관점에서 그람시가 어떤 답을 내렸는지를 살펴보기 위해 그람시 이론의 형성 과정을 국제공산주의운동, 이탈리아 정치 상황, 마르크스주의 사상사라는 세 가지 맥락에서 접근했다. 첫째는 공장평의회 시기, 둘째는 남부주의, 셋째는 경제주의 비판을 그 내용으로 한다. 본 논문에서 필자는 각 시기를 관통하는 그람시의 문헌을 조사함으로써 주도 세력으로서의 노동계급의 중심성, 동맹계급에 대한 헤게모니 전략, 반경제주의적 사상을 공산주의 혁명에 필요한 필수적 요소로서 이끌어내고, 마키아벨리적 의미에서의 유능한 근대적 군주로서의 정당을 통해 체화됨으로써 이러한 세 가지 요소가 성공적으로 결합된다고 보았다. 그람시는 당시 이탈리아 정치 정세에서 혁명의 실패를 이러한 요소의 결여로부터 해명하고자 했는데, 필자는 한국의 ‘민주화 과정’에서도 동일한 결여를 교훈적으로 파악할 수 있다고 주장한다.
Abstract
In this article, I draw practical implications on ‘demoncratization process’ in Korea since the 1980s from the experience of Antonio Gramsci’s theoretical and political practice. This article finds the question in the ‘demoncratization process’ in Korean is the same with the question raised by Gramsci after the failure of communist movements in Italy in the 1920s~1940s in terms of conjuctural movement: why revolution failed. To see which answer Gramsci achieved, this article divides Gramsci’s political life into three contexts: the context of international communist movements, the context of internal political situation in Italy and, finally, theoretical context of Marxism. This division corresponds to Gramsci’s experience in communism in Italy: factory councils period of 1918~1920, Meridionalism and critique of economism in Marxism. In the research, I draw three factors as the most essential ones for modern communist movement: leadership of labor class, hegemony strategy and anti-economism, which finally must be combined and concretized into the form of political party as modern price in the Machiavellian sense. This article concludes that the defeat of the proletarian revolution in the West resulted from the absence of these factors, which also prohibits the ‘democratization movements’ in Korea since the 1980s from achieving the complete democracy - social as well as political democracy.
