In this article I reaffirm that there is circular reasoning in Freeman and Kliman’sdefinition of the Monetary Expression of Labor Time (MELT). First, the MELT cannot be determined by aggregate price without circular reasoning and we need money theory to avoid circularity. Freeman and Kliman’s analogy with physical laws do not make theirtheory scientific. Second, I present determina- tions of the MELT when gold functions as money and when commodities ex- change at their production and market prices respectively. Then I examine Marx’s texts and empirical evidence, which Freeman and Kliman present, to show that they support, rather than contradict my earlier suggestions.
