임춘성의 <포스트사회주의 중국의 문화정체성과 문화정치>는 ‘포스트사회주의’라는 문제의식을 가지고 ‘문화연구’의 방법을 통해 현대 중국이라는 대상을 분석하고 있는 저작이다. 이 저작은 현대 중국의 사상지형에서 소수민족 문학, 도시공간, 무협소설, 영화와 다큐멘터리에 이르기까지 여러 영역을 오가며 다양한 중국의 문화정체성을 종횡무진 살펴보고 비판적으로 분석한다. 그러나 이 저작에서 사회주의와 자본주의라는 이분법적 구분에서 벗어나 사회주의의 위기에서 새롭고 창조적인 방식으로 사회주의를 성찰할 가능성을 제공하는 ‘포스트사회주의’의 문제의식에도 불구하고 중국의 다양한 계급투쟁과 저항의 정치에 대한 구체적 설명이부재한 것은 아쉽다. 하지만, 한국의 편협한 중국 담론을 극복하고 개혁개방 이후중국의 다면적인 문화경관을 비판적으로 수용하기 위해서는 이 책의 일독이 필요하다.
Abstract
In his new book Cultural Identities and Cultural Politics in Post-socialist China (Moonhwakwahaksa, 2017) Professor Yim Choon-sung analyzes contemporary China using the method of ‘cultural studies’ with a ‘post-socialist’ perspective. In this work, he explores the various cultural identities of China from its modern ideological topography to ethnic literature, urban space, martial arts novels, films and documentaries. However, despite the perspective of ‘post-socialism’ which allows a new and creative reflection on socialism’s crisis, the absence of a specific description of class struggle and politics of resistance is a weak point. But, it is necessary to read this book in order to overcome South Korea's narrow-minded discourse about China and critically accept the multi-faceted cultural landscape of China after reform and opening.
