21세기는 많은 산업이 소프트웨어 기술에 의존한다. 그런데 과거엔 특정 국가들만 시스템 소프트웨어 기술을 가지고 있었고 이는 우리나라 산업의 경쟁력을 저해하는 주요 원인이 되었었다. 그러나 공개소프트웨어의 출현으로 이제는 어느 나라도 노력만 하면 시스템 소프트웨어 기술을 갖출 수 있는 길이 열리게 되었다. 현재 Linux로 대표되는 공개 소프트웨어는 이미 서버, 내장형시스템에 사용되고 있고, 점차 데스크탑, mission critical system. 컨텐츠 처리 등의 분야로 확대되고 있다. 본 원고에서는 공개소프트웨어 기술동향을 소개하고 세계 주요국의 OSS 도입 동향을 소개한다.
Abstract
In the 21st century, many industries depend on software technology. In the past, only a few countries had the system software technology, which was a great disadvantage for domestic industries. Now with the advent of OSS(Open Source Software), any country can catch up with the system software technology. Linux - which is an important OSS - has been adopted for server and embedded systems. Now Linux is expanding into desktop and mission control system area. This paper briefly introduces the OSS technology and describe worldwide adoption of OSS.
