Abstract
Background noise and channel distortion can have significant impacts on the performance of speech recognition systems. It is well known that speech recognition performance degrades in the presence of environmental noise. A number of methods have been attempted to solve this problem. DSR Standardization is such a trial. Also, a noise results in a non-linear effect of the relation between clean speech and observed speech in a feature domain. This phenomenon causes the mismatch between training and testing so that a performance significantly degrades. To reduce these mismatches, some compensation which is performed in the feature space is needed. These techniques adjust the parameters and some structure of the trained models so that the compensated models are closer to the testing utterance. IMM, referred to as feature and model compensation, is one recent example of this approach. We propose a new approach to use feature compensation method for AFE algorithm, which enables us to implement of the noise robust front-end. Additionally, one more aspect is considered in this paper and we apply VAD information to update of noise estimation. The value is assigned respectively different one according to speech region or non-speech region. The proposed algorithm evaluates for AURORA2 database and the results show better performance than the conventional algorithm.
